Digitran Launches Free Revolutionary Customer Oriented Design Aid
On Its’ Website
January 19, 2007: Digitran, a leading manufacturer of Rotary Switches and Encoders, has
introduced a new revolutionary and free design tool on its’ website that greatly facilitates initial
design and new product development for designers of avionics, radios, and other electronic
assemblies that require panel mounted rotary switches or encoders.
Recognizing the designers’ need to quickly design complex rotary components, the Digitran
team created the unique EZ RotaryTM Configurator Design Tool on the website: www.digitranswitches.
com. The tool allows an engineer or designer to very quickly and easily design and
|
select the key parameters of a rotary switch or encoder and download a 2D or rotatable 3D color
drawing for direct insertion into their CAD system design model via AutoCad®, Pro-E®,
SolidWorks®, etc., for form and fit verification – all at no cost to the designer. A free, product specific data sheet may also be downloaded. Other switch manufacturers typically provide only
general data sheets or specifications. A sample output 3-D model is shown in the figure below
next to a photo of the actual part. The EZ RotaryTM Configurator is easy to use and can save the
designer significant design and evaluation time. A quote for the newly assigned part number
may then be immediately requested via embedded email.
This new tool designs rotary switches and encoders from Digitran’s unique and patented VLP® -
Very Low Profile series of rotary components that provide the designer with the least post panel
depth and most size and weight reduction of any rotary switch or encoder available today.

Digitran announces 57 Series Very Low Profile® Micro-Miniature Rotary Switches
Digitran Division of EMRISE Electronics Corporation today announced the smallest design available for the patent-pending Very Low Profile (VLP ®) rotary switches. These rotary switches feature post panel depths as low as 0.141 inches and ¼ inch diameter bushings and 1/8 inch diameter shafts. Commenting on the new product line, William J. Miller, president of Digitran stated, “These new Very Low Profile rotary switches utilize the same patent pending technology |
that are used in the slightly larger Digitran 67 Series VLP® rotary switches. We’ve been able to dramatically reduce the weight, size and post panel depth of the rotary switch without sacrificing the high reliability, long life and tease-proof tactile feel of our VLP® rotary switch products. The 57 Series are available with all the configured options available for Rotary Switches: multiple decks, indexing angles, stop locations, codes and poles. They can be totally sealed for mil-spec use, and feature a variety of interface options”.

August 15, 2005
Digitran,
a leading manufacturer of high reliability Digital Switches for aerospace
and military electronic systems applications is announcing the availability
of the Very
Low Profile TM (VLP®) Coded Miniature Rotary
Switches. These coded rotary switches are designed for use in all panel-mounted
applications where space behind the system operator panel is limited.
VLP® rotary switches save the designer up
to 83% space saving over competitive designs in applications such as cockpit
avionics, portable equipment, consumer electronics and other applications
where ‘post panel depth’ is restricted. The switches are initially available
in 8, 10, and 12 position models and may include optional connectors that
can significantly reduce installation time and costs for the user. Full
MIL-DTL-3786 compliant switches are now available with a 2-6 week lead-time,
and sell for $39-$75, depending on model and quantities. Delivery times
and prices may vary depending on configurations, options and quantities.
William
J. Miller, Executive Vice President of XET Corporation said, "We
are extremely proud to announce these revolutionary new rotary switch
products that are based on two patent-pending designs. As electronic applications
become smaller and more compact, designers and engineers require very
low profile control components that provide more functionality in less
space. Our Digitran VLP® Series
Rotary Switches meet that requirement. For example, the Digitran Extremely
Low Profile TM Single Deck Rotary Switch is only 0.167 inch
deep, compared to conventional single deck rotary switches with post panel
depths as deep as 1.0 inch. In addition, any one of our multiple deck
switches, say a 4 deck Very Low Profile TM, which feature additional
decks as thin as 0.109 inch can directly replace a competitors single
deck rotary without panel modification. This example equates to four times
the functionality in much less space. Our 4 deck VLP® Miniature Rotary Switch is less than 0.5 inches deep." (See fig. 1)
Designated
the 67000 Series, these new rotary switches meet or exceed the stringent
requirements of MIL-DTL-3786, and feature the same high reliability electrical
contacts that are found in Digitran’s MIL-PRF-22710 Qualified Digital
Switches that have been flying in most military aircraft since the 1970’s.

These
switches are capable of carrying 3 amps and switching 100 milliamps at
28VDC with a minimum 125,000 life cycles – up to 8 times longer than some
competitive rotary switches. All Digitran switches and their components
are manufactured at XET Corporation’s
ISO-9001:2000 certified facilities
in the U.S.A. Additional detail information may be found on Digitran’s Web site:
http://www.digitran-switches.com.
Mr.
Miller continued "The Digitran marketing and engineering team has
performed an excellent job identifying and solving a major problem for
design engineers of today and tomorrow’s electronic systems: namely how
to increase the space utilization efficiency in restricted locations like
cockpit instrumentation. Using the Digitran ELP TM or VLP® rotary switches allows the designer to add additional
electronics or additional components in the spaces previously occupied
by bulkier and heavier components, thereby increasing the functionality
of the equipment and improving it’s design. These new switches are ideal
for commercial and military aerospace cockpit designs, portable instrumentation,
automotive cockpit instrumentation, consumer electronics, and other space
starved electronics systems where the designer is looking for a competitive
edge and where size and weight are always a consideration. However, so
revolutionary are these patent-pending designs, we are presently discussing
licensing opportunities for the designs into other products and markets.
Because there is no reason to waste space in any component locations,
I can envision a time when most panel mounted rotary devices will utilize
this patent-pending design concept."

Digitran has a rich
history providing the right high reliability switch products for aerospace
markets since 1959 when Digitran introduced the first coded output Thumbwheel
switch product line. So universal and popular is this family of products,
that the U.S. military wrote a specification for them, MIL-S-22710 to
specify their use in combat platforms, communications systems and defensive
equipment for use throughout the free world militaries. Because these
switches are highly reliable, are lightweight, feature sunlight readability
and specialty lighting for NVIS and other special cockpit low light applications,
they continue to be utilized on most U.S. and Allied military platforms
in service today.
